Starting this Monday June 7th Lori Stokes will anchor the 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts after four years on FOX 5 (WYNY-TV) Good Day New York. Veteran anchor Rosanna Scotto will remain on the popular morning show. The station is reportedly looking nationally to pair Scotto with a male co-anchor.
Stokes replaced Greg Kelly in 2017 after leaving ABC7 (WABC-TV). She was a reporter and anchor at MSNBC and NBC News. Her career stops include Champaign, Illinois; Charlotte, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. She landed in New York City at WABC-TV in 2000.
She is the daughter of Louis Stokes, a noted civil rights pioneer and politician who served 15 terms in the U. S. House of Representatives, representing the east side of Cleveland, and was the first African American congressman elected in the state of Ohio. She is also the niece of Carl Stokes, who became the first elected Black mayor of a major U.S. city as mayor of Cleveland in 1967.
