Who is Going to Replace Angela Yee on The Breakfast Club? Big Decision for iHeartMedia | Setting the Odds
We believe it will be solely iHeart's Vice President of Programming, Thea Mitchem's decision to name the new host to join Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy on The Breakfast Club. So let's take a look at some likely candidates and place some odds.
The new host will most likely be a female with a journalistic and electronic media background. Although a male personality is not out of the question. But we may see two new hosts join The Breakfast Club. As Angela Yee tweeted the show as we know it, is officially over.
iHeartMedia will probably look to grab someone well known nationally and has experience as an interviewer. (And someone that is able to get into the radio studio by 6:00am every morning) Having one host like Charlamagne getting in late is one thing, but two chronically late hosts is not a good look.
iHeartMedia would probably do themselves a favor by picking someone already under contract with iHeartMedia. But why would they limit themselves. They may look for their new host(s) from State of The Culture, Complex's Everyday Struggle, or Sirius XM. What has proven not to work is trying to mold a social media influencer or an artist into a radio personality.
The odds we are setting are based on how the money line in football works in Vegas. You bet or put up $100 and if your pick wins, then you collect. For instance the Dallas Cowboys opened the season with 20-to-1 odds to win the Super Bowl. The money line for the Cowboys to win was about +2,000 before the first week of games were played. As of this week, after the injury to quarterback Dak Prescott and their disastrous play against Tampa Bay, the money line for the Dallas Cowboys to win the Super Bowl is now up to +5,000. The Philadelphia Eagles are +2,800 this week after starting out at +4,000 last week. The favorites are the Buffalo Bills at +600 followed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at +750. The lower the money amount the better chance of winning.
Would you put your money on the Dallas Cowboys? Maybe, if you think they will win the Super Bowl, you would collect $5,000. Now if you said yes, then you just threw away $100. We do recognize that Charlamagne is a life long Dallas Cowboys fan.
Now let's look at the personalities that might be considered by iHeart to replace Angela Yee. All of them are worthy of the position. There is no clear cut favorite. It all comes down to the chemistry they will have with Uncle Charla and Envy.
You can't bet on this! OK? Let's have some fun.
Two personalities will be added to The Breakfast Club +150
Charlamagne said in an interview with Madame Noire recently, “I don’t think it’s gonna be one person. It might be two.” In that case a male and female which will still make it a club.
Gia Peppers +200
Any personality that has appeared on The Breakfast Club should be considered a contender. Watch the interview.
Melyssa Ford +250
Former radio veteran on Sirius XM and host on the iHeartMedia podcast Hollywood Unlocked with Jason Lee.
Nadeska + 300
Nadeska is a journalist. Would she be able to leave Apple Music? Probably not. There's no way Ebro would let that happen. A strong plus though is her name is mentioned in quite a few songs including 21 Savage's verse on Drake's JimmyCooks "Askin' all these questions, you must think you Nadeska"
Remy Ma + 350
She seems to be the early favorite. Remy may be more of a music personality than a journalist. But for the listening public she would be a popular choice.
Eboni K. Williams +500
Eboni has a ton of interviewing experience and has appeared on The Breakfast Club several times. She does a news program on REVOLT TV.
Angela Rye +600
Angela Rye, like Eboni has appeared on the Breakfast Club many times. But right now she is under contract with ESPN, which is Disney.
Kendra G +1,000
Morning Show host on WGCI Chicago an iHeart station. She and Charlamagne were personalities at the former 100.3 The Beat WPHI-FM Philadelphia where she hosted middays and he hosted mornings.
Scottie Beam +1,500
Scottie having appeared on State of the Culture is a plus. She would probably like to return to radio based in New York City after having been on Hot 97 five years ago.
Mina SayWhat +2,000
Current host on Sirius XM The Heat. Satellite radio is where Angela Yee came from before joining The Breakfast Club. Tons of New York and Philly radio experience having worked at Power 99, Radio 103.9, and 100.3 WRNB. Still the odds are better than the Cowboys winning the Super Bowl.
Lady Jade +3,000
Recently departed the syndicated "DeDe in the Morning" based in Dallas Texas. She has not disclosed her reason for leaving the show, but it was not for an offer to join The Breakfast Club when she left.
Brandon "Jinx" Jenkins +3,500
Formerly of State of the Culture. More likely to join if The Breakfast Club adds two new hosts rather than them adding just one host.
Jason Lee +4,000
The host of Hollywood Unlocked. He's a bit much and messy as Charlamagne said in the above clip with Melyssa Ford.
An Unknown Host we have not mentioned +5,000
Dak Prescott would have a better chance. (Some rising star who is now on Top 40 radio or R&B radio and is apart of iHeartMedia family. Maybe one of Angela Yee's co-hosts on her Lip Service podcast or a host on Charlamagne's Black Effect podcast network.)
Rory and Mal +10,000 one or the other or both.
Angie Martinez +50,000 The Queen of New York Radio. Interesting thought... But... Nah. Power 105.1 would need a new afternoon host.
Wendy Williams +100,000 Could you imagine?
DJ Akademiks +200,000 Can't imagine.
Joe Budden +500,000 Really can't imagine.
Troi "Star" Torain +1,000,000 Anyone that was on "Everyday Struggle" has a chance.
We've left off quite a few amazing urban radio personalities around the country, quite frankly because they are under contract with other radio companies, we believe as Angela Yee said, iHeart will cast a wide net to find their next host.
Come back and check for updates. As in football, the odds are always changing.
Troi and DJ envy don’t like each other.
