The Most Powerful Man in Black Radio Doc Wynter Talks Radio War Stories on The Bootleg Kev Podcast

Doc Wynter is the President of Hip Hop/R&B Strategy For iHeartMedia and Program Director for REAL 92.3 in Los Angeles. A position that arguably makes him the most important person in Black/Urban radio, a gatekeeper if you will, given the fact that iHeart owns more stations that any other media company in America. Wynter, a New York native, has an extensive 34 year history in radio that includes being an on air personality and programmer. One of the topics that came up was a discussion about the launch of The Breakfast Club with DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha God, and Angela Yee; and how it's not immediate success triggered a meeting a few months in about whether the show should continue on Power 105.1.

Wynter not only oversees top rated stations R&B stations across the country like WVAZ V103 Chicago and WDAS FM Philadelphia and Hip Hop stations such as Power 105.1 New York and Real 92.3 Los Angles; but also Premier Network's syndicated programs like Steve Harvey Morning Show, the above mentioned The Breakfast Club, Big Boy's Neighborhood, and The Sweat Hotel.

The one important takeaway from this podcast is this: Doc Wynter doesn't and never did let "record guys" run his stations. You have to admire him for that.

Bootleg Kev Podcast is the evening host at Los Angeles' Real 92.3. The audio of the podcast is below.
