Tavis Smiley's Daily Show Goes Big with National Syndication from KBLA 1580 Los Angeles
Tavis Smiley has announced his daily radio talk show will launch into national syndication. The program originates from the station he owns, 1580 KBLA-AM, and he has already secured one affiliate in 1230 WBOK located in New Orleans.
“We’re excited to bring our radio program to listeners across America,” said Smiley. “Our innovative programming with groundbreaking, exclusive interviews has filled a void for African American and progressive listeners in Southern California and soon in markets throughout the United States.”
More stations will be added as affiliates in the coming weeks, with several expected to be announced in September.
Tavis Smiley's station, once known as LA's first hip hop station KDAY back in 1983, now boasts a roster of interesting hosts that embodies their imaging as "Unapologetically Progressive." Dominique diPrima, the former and long time host of The Front Page on KJLH, now host "Dominique di Prima with First Thing First" from 6am to 9am followed by Tavis Smiley from 9am to Noon PT (12-3 ET).
In recent weeks Smiley's own guest list has included his long time friend and presidential candidate Dr. Cornel West and singer Karyn White in studio.
