Don Geronimo Fired for Derogatory “Barbie” Comments Towards WUSA9 Sports Reporter at Commanders Training Camp

Following the recent ownership change of the Washington Commanders from previous owner Dan Snyder to Josh Harris, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, and others, which was celebrated by many; radio personality Don Geronimo and his producer Crash Young made disparaging remarks towards WUSA9 reporter Sharla McBride at training camp last Thursday. She has covered the team since 2020 and the radio broadcasters had to know who she was. During the show, Geronimo noticed McBride walking by and stated on air, “Hey look, Barbie’s here. Hi, Barbie girl. I’m guessing she’s a cheerleader.”

BIG100 was barred from broadcasting on Friday at training camp. Geronimo was fired on Saturday as iHeartMedia took swift action, as the company has exclusive broadcast rights to air the Commanders games.

As for Geronimo, advice would be to read the room...ALWAYS. The Commanders owners want to distance themselves from the previous ownership regime... When news broke that the NFL approved the sale of the team about 10 days ago, there was also news concerning the formal owner:

Daniel Snyder will pay $60 million in restitution after a league investigation found that he harassed a female employee and improperly withheld revenue when he owned the Washington Commanders.

Therefore it's no surprised that Geronimo was fired.

From WUSA9 - A local radio personality was fired after making disparaging, sexist remarks about a sports reporter live on his show during Commanders training camp.

WBIG "BIG 100" radio presenter Don Geronimo was let go Saturday after an internal review by parent company iHeart Radio.

"After an internal review, Don Geronimo is no longer an employee of WBIG," President of the Washington DC Region for iHeartMedia, Aaron Hyland said. "We take matters of this nature very seriously and this behavior does not align with our core values."
