Ryan Clark Fired During Commercial Break on ESPN NFL Live
Andrew Marchand of The Athletic broke the story earlier today. But as the story gained traction throughout the afternoon, Marchand wrote more on social media: “Clark was on NFL Live today, but was told during the program that he was being let go, according to sources. He did not finish the program. ESPN was expected to inform him tomorrow morning when it is anticipated the network [will] inform more employees of the layoffs.”
Marchand updated story: “ESPN cuts ties with NFL analyst Ryan Clark, wider layoffs expected Tuesday: Sources,” informs readers that Clark was told during NFL Live and he did not finish the program on Monday. Marchand further learned that ESPN management says the reason Clark was told during the show was due to media inquiries into his departure and a fear that the news would leak out before they could inform him. Since after the Super Bowl in February, sources had told The Athletic that Clark’s job could be in jeopardy. Last week, The Athletic learned that Clark was likely to be let go.
ESPN’s plan was to do that on Tuesday morning, but after receiving calls on the matter chose to inform him during his show as it did not want him to read online before being told in person. Check out the article from The Athletic using the link above.
