Unfiltered Amanda Seales Has a New Radio Home and is Hyper-Critical of Billionaire Jay-Z on Her First Show

Amanda Seales has launched a return to radio via Tavis Smiley's KBLA Talk 1580 in Los Angeles (which also streams on their app live worldwide) on Fridays. One of her first discussions on “The Summer of Seales” centered on Jay-Z's free style at his Yankee Stadium concert that occurred on July 10th (the Reasonable Doubt one) which featured a diss of Colin Kaepernick. Let's give some context to the Seales' commentary and criticism by hearing the clips from Jay-Z's free style. She calls what Jay-Z did NUTS!

 

Seales' criticism focuses on the financial level Jay-Z has reached, suggesting that he is now in a position to say, "I'm rocking with the oppressor." This gives him a certain authority to tell the Black community at large, and his fans in particular, what they should do with their money. She also points to his ability to use a concert, where fans paid their hard-earned money to attend, as a platform to deliver disparaging bars about their loyalty to brands such as Instagram (Meta) and YouTube (Google). In doing so, Jay-Z took the time to educate them about who owns those brands.

  

Jay-Z partnered with Target for an exclusive release of the 30th-anniversary collector's edition of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt. The special release is a limited-edition vinyl priced at $40 that features alternative artwork and collectible inserts. The partnership has drawn intense public criticism and sparked debate across social media. The controversy stems from a loosely organized nationwide consumer boycott of Target, led primarily by Black consumers, over the retailer's previous rollback of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

Given that Jay-Z's diss is critical of Colin Kaepernick, who took a knee to protest police brutality and thus end his NFL career; the lack of pushback towards HOV from major radio hosts and podcasters is particularly puzzling. Is it that no one wants to cross Jay-Z or the behemoth known as Roc Nation? Seales carefully reviews moves Jay-Z has made in the past to undermine primarily Black collective movements and locally organized protests in his native Brooklyn. She, who is one of very few media personalities, characterizes those actions as disloyal and anti-Black.

Amanda Seales' former radio home was Radio One's Reach Media, where her show lasted just over two years. It launched in November 2022 and aired its final episodes at the end of 2024. The program aired in the mornings on 100.3 WRNB in Philadelphia and Power 107.5 in Columbus, Ohio, and in middays on Majic 102.3/92.7 in Washington, D.C., 102.5 The Block in Charlotte, and 99.5/102.7 The Box in Richmond, Virginia. 

Prior to her radio show, Seales starred in the HBO comedy series Insecure from 2017 to 2021. Previously known as Amanda Diva, she launched her radio career in the 2000s on SiriusXM. Now she has a radio voice once again on KBLA Talk 1580.
