Smooth R&B 105.7 Now Airing the Former Weekday Line-Up from Majic 94.5

Radio One which recently purchased Smooth R&B 105.7 (KRNB-FM) and K104 (KKDA-FM) in the DFW has moved the former weekday lineup at Majic 94.5 up the dial to 105.7. The only show remaining in its original timeslot is The Steve Harvey Morning Show. Queen Indy Bee will follow from 9am to Noon with Veda Loca's House Party from12-3pm. Reach Media’s DL Hughley Show returns to afternoons from 3-7pm along with “Love and R&B” hosted by KG Smooth at night. We alerted you earlier this month when the Rickey Smiley Morning Show moved to 97.9 The Beat (KBFB-FM), that we expected the Majic 94.5 shows would re-surface.

Meanwhile Radio One has two Hip Hop stations and one Adult R&B station in the Dallas-Ft. Worth market. As far as things in the urban radio landscapes goes, this would suggest a format change skewing to an older demo is coming to 97.9 The Beat (???) along with a rebranding of "Smooth R&B" on 105.7.

K104 is definitely the stronger brand and will remain untouched, which is the home base for the syndicated DeDe in the Morning show. One Hip Hop format in a market is now more than enough when you're the only owner of urban radio in town. Therefore look for either a classic Hip Hop format, or R&B/Throwbacks format with The Rickey Smiley as the anchor morning show.

With the changes at Smooth R&B 105.7 we've learned besides the exit of afternoon host Keith Solis last week, that midday host Lynne Haze has exited the station as well. Janet G, who hosted The Quiet Storm, has been doing the local mornings news and traffic segments on the Steve Harvey Morning Show.

Veteran Dallas radio personality and producer of The DL Hughley Show Skip Cheatham gives an update.
