Why Jay-Z's Freestyle on Colin Kaepernick Being a Sellout and Taking a Check is So Complicated
Jemele Hill explains what it means to take a check during a pending lawsuit which was the case with Colin Kaepernick and the NFL. Hill was the executive producer of the Spike Lee Netflix documentary that has yet to see the light of day. (Not to hard to figure why it hasn't aired yet on Netflix. But the project did get green lit.)
Bomani Jones of the Right Time and Joel Alexander of The Ringer discuss the implications of the Jay-Z freestyle and how it has meaning for some, but not all.
They make some very valid points. Perhaps it's Jay-Z's nobility that gives him the license to say in his free style that he hasn't been silenced like Kaepernick. Let's go back to one of the big points made on the freestyle- The Non-Disparagement. Hill quite clearly stated that Kap has had much to say about the NFL. That line itself has now created a narrative that makes Colin Kaepernick appear to be a sell out -- which now has been echoed by Mysonne on the Roc Solid Pod with Memphis Bleek. (Is this damage control for the head of Roc Nation/Roc-A-Fella on The Black Effect Podcast pod "Roc Solid Pod"-- you can go down that rabbit hole if you want...)
Like they say there is always more than one side to a story. It's Complicated!
