Florida's Attorney General sues Arbitron over Miami radio ratings

Florida wants to block Arbitron ratings release

- Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum is asking a circuit court to stop Arbitron Inc. from releasing radio audience information, calling the company’s listener-tracking system “flawed.”

- Rollout of Florida’s first PPM data results will take place in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood by the end of this week and in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater market by October, according to the suit. Arbitron has classified both the Tampa and Miami markets as “high-density black” and “high-density Hispanic,” but has yet to receive MRC (Media Rating Council) accreditation in Florida.

- Advertising agencies in Miami already are looking to negotiate ad price reductions of between 30 to 50 percent from the minority broadcasters because of this new methodology, McCollum said.

- McCollum said that if Arbitron continues its plan to release PPM-collected data, it will violate Florida law.

Has anyone taken out the garbage because something stinks!
