Pulse 87 - Is the end near?

Radio Online is reporting that financially-troubled Mega Media Group's Rhythmic CHR Pulse 87 in New York has been off the air since Sunday night. The station is telling listeners there are technical issues which have kept the station off the air, but Pulse 87 is still streaming online. (Although the website was offline at times yesterday) Mega Media filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in August.

According to court papers, Mega owes creditors more than $3.5 million. But that's not all, frequency owner Island Broadcasting, has reportedly put the signal up for sale with a price tag of $15 million. Even so, the station pulled in 831,000 listeners last month according to Arbitron's PPM. Pulse 87 (WNYZ-LP) broadcasts on 87.7 FM, which is the audio portion of low power TV Channel 6 in New York City.

It looks like despite their heroic efforts to bring something different to NY's radio landscape by taking on the big radio conglomerates, the dance music radio station has reached its last stand.
