Another Hip Hop Station Bites the Dust

The hip-hop music is gone from Hot 93.3 (KDHT-FM) in Austin, TX and its owner Emmis Broadcasting has fired the entire on-air staff. A new format will debut on Friday.

The PPM ratings system that's set to debut in early 2010 and competition from Clear Channel Radio's 105.9 The Beat "Austin's Hip Hop Station" featuring the Ryan Seacrest Show (really?) are reasons cited for the change.

  1. No surprise here. Emmis has been trying to get out of the hip-hop/urban/rhythmic format altogether. Now all they have left is KPWR, WRKS, and WQHT in this arena.
