Mint Condition: Music's One and Only R&B Band
Mint Condition is celebrating over 20 years in the music industry with their latest [VIDEO] 'Walk On"
If you watched the most recent Soul Train Awards that aired on BET and Centric, the show ended with a fitting tribute to the legendary R&B band Earth, Wind, and Fire. Afterwards, we were wondering, are there any R&B bands today?
Of course, however there is only one- Mint Condition. They are the only band outside of rock and country music that still exists and releases current music. (Our definition of band is: group members that play their own instruments in the studio when recording and performing live. Think more like The Roots, although they are a Hip Hop band. Our definition does not include vocal groups, like Destiny's Child or Diddy's Dirty Money or his series of "Making the Band" groups.)
So let's show some love to Mint Condition. The staying power of the Minneapolis based band has been amazing given the change in the music industry over the last 20 years. Maybe the fact that much is not known about the individual band members is a positive factor in the group remaining intact for so many years. Their most visible member is lead singer and drummer/percussionist Stokley Williams. Many may now know former member keyboardist Keri Lewis, the ex-husband of Toni Braxton, based on the popularity of the reality show, "Braxton Family Values."
Their latest track is "Walk On." It's worthy of an add to any Urban AC playlist. The video features Carl Payne, better known as Cole from the TV comedy show 'Martin.' Check it out below along with two of Mint Condition's earlier hits from the 90's.
Are they music's last R&B band?
