A Report on Heavy D's Funeral and a Look Back at His Music

MYFOXNY.COM - Thousands mourned and celebrated the man simply known as Heavy D at Grace Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, N.Y., the late rapper's hometown.

Longtime friend Sean "Diddy" Combs wasn't the only A-lister at the hip hop legend's funeral. Entertainment icons Will Smith, Queen Latifah, Don King, Usher and many more gathered at the church to say their final farewells.

Heavy D, whose real name was Dwight Myers, died Tuesday of pneumonia. He was 44.

The smooth-talking star first gained fame in the late 1980s with his unique upbeat style. Decades later and his songs still inspire the many fans who lined up outside.
Heavy D called himself "The Overweight Lover" -- a poignant name because fans and friends say even in death, love is what D was all about.

The 2009 release "Long Distance Girlfriend" proved that Heavy D was still an innovative and talented rapper/producer as he captures the Dance Hall style of his Jamaican roots. The song did not get much radio airplay following it's release although it was one of our favorites.
