Tom Joyner Recognized as Giants of Broadcasting and Electronic Arts Honoree

Library of American Broadcasting Salutes it’s 2016 Honorees --Awards presented to Tom Brokaw, Dick Ebersol, Susan Lucci, Tom Joyner, Susan Stamberg, Maria Bartiromo, Paul Karpowicz, Steve Kroft, and Perry Sook. Posthumous Award presented to Walt Disney.

On Thursday October 6th, celebrated nationally syndicated radio host Tom Joyner was among ten distinguished members of the media industry were saluted at the 14th Annual GIANTS OF BROADCASTING & ELECTRONIC ARTS Luncheon in New York’s Gotham Hall. This celebration, which was presented by the International Radio and Television Society Foundation, benefits the Library of American Broadcasting Foundation--a charity dedicated to preserving the past, reflecting the present, and informing the future.

Joyner, a trailblazer in syndicated radio, reaches 7.4 million listeners weekly on nearly 100 radio stations.  He earned the moniker “The Fly Jock” in the mid-1980s flying between Dallas and Chicago, doing his number one morning drive program in Dallas and then commuting to Chicago for his number one afternoon program. In 1994, The Tom Joyner Morning Show became a syndicated radio mainstay where Joyner uses his voice to encourage voter registration, health initiatives and education while entertaining, engaging and empowering his listeners.

The Library created the Giants to honor the remarkable creators, innovators, entrepreneurs, performers and journalists who have brought the electronic arts to the prominence they occupy in the United States and the world today, and who have set the stage for the future.

The 2016 Honorees join 191 GIANTS OF BROADCASTING who have been honored by the Library since 2003.
