AURN Cancels Syndication Deal with 'The Hezekiah Walker Show' and 'Inspirations with Liz Black'- - Shows Will Only Be Heard on 1190 WLIB in New York City
American Urban Radio Networks is discontinuing two of its gospel shows, effective at the end of May. “The Hezekiah Walker Show” hosted by the popular gospel artist and pastor and “Inspirations with Liz Black” anchored by the veteran New York inspirational personality, will no longer be syndicated as has been confirmed by the radio trade magazine site .Inside Radio.
The cancellations were triggered by AURN’s contract with the shows’ flagship station, Emmis Communications gospel WLIB, New York (1190), not being renewed. The contracts expire next month. “Without the flagship station, which represents the majority of the audience, we decided to discontinue the two shows,” Basil Murrain, AURN VP of Marketing & Communications, told Inside Radio.
Roughly 40 affiliate stations are affected. They were informed in a letter from the network Monday.
Walker’s weekend show and Black’s daily short form vignette series will both continue to be offered. The programs are part of AURN Inspirational, which will continue to syndicate a handful of other gospel programs and live gospel music streams from its website, which some stations use as part of their programming.
Listeners in New York City won't miss a beat but a significant number gospel stations and listeners around the country won't hear the shows. Emmis the owners of the heritage station (and the former owners of Hot 97 and 107.5 WBLS) do not offer a stream of WLIB on the station's very generic website and it's not available on the iHeart or Audacy apps. There is a stream of WLIB available on radio.net.
WLIB features Get Up Mornings with Eric Campbell and The Rev. Al Sharpton Show from Reach Media.
