WRNB 100.3 Drops Hip Hop for Philly's Best R&B as PD Paris Nicole Exits the Company
Diddy may have recently said that R&B is dead but Radio One Philadelphia tweaked the format today on 100.3 WRNB-FM Media, (Phila.) PA by dropping all Hip Hop songs on the station.
With this format tweak and new direction comes the exit of program director and afternoon host Paris Nicole. She's been with Radio One for 12 years having hosted previously on WPHI 103.9 until it's sale to Audacy in 2020 and prior to that in her native city of Richmond on iPower 92.1/104.1 WCDX-FM.
The station is positioning itself as Philly's Best R&B. The new format is incorporating 90's, 00's, 10's, and today's R&B tracks along with Afro Beats with artists such as Tems. This format previously ran on WRNB's HD2 channel with The Rickey Smiley Morning Show in morning drive.
With the format tweak, The Morning Hustle with Headkrack and Lore'l also exits the station’s line up on 100.3 FM. However the previous format, 100.3 R&B and Hip Hop, has moved over to WRNB's HD2 channel, online at WRNBHD2.com, and on streaming apps. There listeners can hear The Morning Hustle, The Quicksilva Show with Dominque Da Diva, and Incognito's "Posted on the Corner" night show.
Radio One now plans to go head to head with iHeart's market leading Adult R&B/Urban Contemporary station 105.3 WDAS-FM. The iHeartRadio station has used the "Philly's Best R&B & Throwbacks" for many years and frequently finishes first as the most listened to station in Philadelphia. Radio One also owns Classix 107.9 (WPPZ-FM) "playing classic R&B from the 70's and 80's and does decent numbers but no where near what WDAS-FM does.
With this move iHeartradio's Power 99 WUSL-FM now becomes the only urban/hip hop station in Philadelphia, although the market has several Rhythmic/Contemporary Hit Music stations that play the likes of Meg Thee Stallion, Cardi B., Drake, and Jack Harlow.
100.3 WRNB will be jockless for the foreseeable future. We don't expect any local personalities to hit the airwaves until October. Previously the station ran The Rickey Smiley Show and The DL Hughley show on the HD2 channel.

I like R&B but damn
ReplyDeleteI'm really annoyed by this move. I liked the Paris Nicole show and I liked having another hip-hop station besides power 99.
