2 Live Stews Leave 790 The Zone for Possible Move to NEW CBS Radio FM Sports Station

Ryan Stewart and Doug Stewart
2 Live Stews are off the air at Atlanta's sports talk station 790 The Zone

A possible contract extension was said to be in the works but now they have been taken off the air three months early. Atlanta area listeners chime in on the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC) Rodney Ho's Radio/TV newspaper blog while speculation mounts of where they might land next in radio. The Stews are now enjoying some time off from the daily sports hosting chair that began 11 years ago.

"The Stews" are Moncks Corner, South Carolina natives and brothers Doug Stewart, a former sports agent and ex-NFL player and Detroit Lions baller Ryan Stewart. They began their meteoric rise in sports talk as late night host at 790 The Zone in the early 2000's. The built a following among their "dogs" and "poodles" while learning the radio biz which eventually landed them into the afternoon drive slot and the number one rated sports talk show in Atlanta. Oh and by the way, during that time they had syndication deals with Radio One, Sporting News Radio, hosted the show 'Black Men Revealed' on TV One, along with appearing on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and ESPN's First Take.

They had a lot going on until Lincoln Financial took over programming and ownership at 790 The Zone in 2010. The 2 Live Stews found that their "hip-hop/sports/urban/entertainment" approach didn’t quite appeal to management and they were told to tone it down. They were bounced around the schedule which caused their audience to erode. Ratings declined and they lost favor with management.

Now comes speculation that Doug and Ryan Stewart may re-surface at the NEW sports talk station in Atlanta slated to debut in October of this year at CBS owned and operated rock station Dave 92.9 FM. If the Stews were to surface at the new sports station, they would first have to sit out for possibly up to 6 months to a year due to a non-compete clause.

The Stews had this to say on twitter:

Like Jay Z said, "1-2-3 BREATHE EASY!" I truly appreciate all of the kind words & the support on what's been a shockingly long day. But...

..., these things happen to the best of them & that doesn't exclude the . We've been blessed to do what we love for...

...11 years. I'm a firm believer that GOD is in total control of all things, & I thank Him for His will. I'm excited about what's next...

...& I have no ill will or malice in my heart for how things have been done. If everything was always all good, it wouldn't be appreciated.
