Catching Up with Kesha Monk, Staying Strong and Never Giving Up
Tells Her Story of Defeating Cancer and New Project to local TV
Kesha Monk, who has worked the top stations in LA (The Beat), Chicago (WGCI), and New York (98.7 Kiss FM from 2001 to 2008) is now hosting weekends at The New 96.9 BZJ in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is behind the mic on Saturdays from 10-3 and Sundays from 3-7. She explains her return to North Carolina in a recent interview she did with Channel 14 Carolina News.
Kesha recently competed in the WHUR Next Big Voice Contest and won the online voting at 44% and is being considered for afternoons at WHUR. She also has a great voiceover gig at Studio Center.
Kesha also shared that she just had her seventh surgery in a year and a half.
Kesha says...My intent? To share my experience with whomever will listen. This is the official start of my “media tour” regarding the “KESHA MONK PROJECT”. I’m telling you. The Kesha Monk Project is going to change some lives!
Today, I saw an old friend (Jon Champion) who helped me get in the Channel 14 door . . .and I gained a new friend, Ms. Marti Skold who not only listened to my story with great compassion – but literally took the bracelet off of her arm and gave it to me simply because I admired it.
People…listen up. Cancer is not a death sentence. I’ve made up in my mind to LIVE. If you have been touched by cancer and you’re reading this – - I’m talking to YOU!
This October, I plan to unveil an exhibit unlike any other. It will be more than physical…it will be emotional. I will also raise money for the Colon Cancer Alliance’s Blue Note Fund. Will you donate today?

From The New 96.9 BZJ- In addition to being a phenomenal radio personality and a brilliant marketing maven, Kesha Monk is also a talented vocalist & instrumentalist. She’s the product of a musical family; both of her parents were gospel artists and her great uncle was the legendary jazz musician, Thelonious Monk. Born and bred in Queens, New York, it’s no surprise that this brilliant young lady has embraced a multimedia career.
Kesha Monk graduated from New York’s world acclaimed High School of Music & Art, where she majored in instrumental music and played the bassoon in various citywide orchestras. She is also a 1995 graduate of Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications.
After being diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in 2011, she has adapted a “MUST WIN” philosophy about life. She is elated to be back in the city where it all began. The opportunity to work at the New 96.9, has been deemed a “pure blessing”. You can jam with Kesha every Saturday and Sunday on the New 96.9!
