Did Michele Wright Win WHUR Washington's Next Big Voice Contest?
Comedian and DC native Mike Brooks co-hosted with Michele Wright during the contest |
No. She did not win the contest but...
...she does sound like Washington.
From all accounts Kesha Monk won the contest that was put in place to generate interest after the Michael Baisden Show left the airwaves back in April. Station management has said that the listener voting would be only one of the factors that will decide who gets the afternoon hosting chair.
The contest ended a couple of weeks ago and WHUR went a few days without a live host until last week when Michele Wright started hosting afternoons. The station needed a "live voice" between songs. Going jockless in the afternoon was just not going to work in a major market like D.C.
So for the time being, Michele, who also hosts The Suite Spot on SiriusXM's Heart & Soul channel 48 and Saturday afternoon's from 4 to 8 on 'HUR will remain in place. An announcement regarding a permanent host is not expected anytime soon. The station may even go back to syndication. That's a possibility as well.
The loyal listeners of WHUR have posted many comments via facebook. Here are a couple:

Yeh, did they just picked Michele Wright and not say anything. I have noticed she has been sitting in the past week or so. I agree with you Reggie. Enough is enough, Whur will soon lose my confidence. - ...
When is Kesha Monk, Winner of the Opinion Poll (44%) going to start? Didn't the radio hosts that were invited to participate already have what you were looking for anyway? Or are you guys trying to just slide someone in hoping we forget all about this contest? LOL, a mess.
