Dyana Williams and Soulful Sunday Broadcasts Its Final Show on Classix 107.9
Dyana Williams has also exited her drive time hosting duties at from 3-7 P.M. at Classix 107.9. It was only last July (2019) that she approached and asked to fill the weekday drive time position at WPPZ. At the time she told the Philadelphia Inquirer: “I haven’t done full-time radio since the ’80s,” Williams said, primping her signature, now-platinum, bob. “I’ve filled in the years with so many other things … but I never stopped doing radio. I’ve always done part-time or little stints.”
Dyana is a veteran radio personality who began her career at 96.3 WHUR in the early 1970's. Back then she was known as "Ebony Moonbeams." In fact she sent us an aircheck years ago; for some reason we came across it again and uploaded it in 2018 to Youtube. [Listen Here].
She moved on to 107.5 WBLS in the mid-70's under the tutelage of Frankie Crocker. Then she settled in Philadelphia at 105.3 WDAS FM for many years as a radio host.
But her claim to fame is really what she has done behind the scenes as a mentor for countless R&B and Hip Hop artists and groups trying to get themselves established in the music industry since the 1980's. You have frequently seen her lend her expertise and comments to the TV ONE program "Unsung." She was also profiled in the Philadelphia Tribune as Hip Hop's Artist Whisperer
Dyana may be even be better known for coining the phrase: "City of Brotherly Love...and Sisterly Affection." She will be missed.
Derrick Sampson stated during their final broadcast that he will fill other capacities at the station.
Her farewell words posted on Instagram:
