Ice Cube Posts Explosive Rant on the NBA and Media Gatekeepers Sabotaging His Success

Ice Cube, the owner of the First Black-Owned Sports League in American History, went to Twitter and launched an expletive filled rant against those he calls the media gatekeepers. He also railed against the NBA and insinuated the league is working against him and are undermining his success in Big 3. Ice Cube said he is ready to launch a "calling out the gatekeepers tour" podcast to identify those that are standing in his way of greatness. The Big 3 basketball league, now in its sixth season opened league play yesterday. The games are aired on Sunday afternoons on CBS.

((ex)-plicit language warning)

Perhaps opening weekend was not very successful and perhaps the league is hemorrhaging money. Quite frankly the buzz about the league has been nowhere close to what it was six years ago. The league positioned itself as 3 on 3 basketball with recently retired NBA players. When it launched the prospect of recently retired NBA players like Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett, and the late Kobe Bryant was a point of interest around the country for basketball fans. Iverson played a couple of games, but fell to injury in his first year and never played again. The biggest star at this point is Joe Johnson. The long time NBA veteran was actually invited to the NBA's Detroit Pistons training camp after a very successful 2022 Big 3 season. But as far as household names go, there are no others. Most of the players in the league saw a cup of coffee in the NBA or play overseas.

The Big 3 truly needs a STAR personality. Maybe Ice Cube can persuade recently retired players like DWade, Lou Williams, Andre Iguodala, or Jamal Crawford to join the league. Are they big enough stars? (Maybe) Perhaps they could reconfigure teams so that they are a collection of former players from a particular franchise (former Lakers, Bulls, Celtics, etc. ban together, but this is something the NBA has probably prevented The Big 3 from doing). This move would be similar to the TBT tournament that will be seen on ESPN very shortly, where former college players form a team of alumni that compete for $2 million. Perhaps even limit the league to players under 6'6'' to allow for faster play.

We hope find they find the right formula and are able to pivot towards success.
