Chick Hernandez’s Surprising Exit from WUSA9: What You Need to Know
Veteran Washington, D.C. sports anchor Chick Hernandez was recently fired from the anchor desk at WUSA9. Reports confirm that the station ended his tenure unexpectedly, and no reason for his dismissal was provided to either the staff or to the public. This move drew attention especially because Hernandez was a prominent hire just two years ago and is one of the region’s most recognized sports broadcasters having spent 30 years in the market.
Hernandez was hired in 2023 with much fanfare.
Less than a week ago, Hernandez was reporting from Spain as the Washington Commanders were taking on the Miami Dolphins in a historic NFL regular season game that took place at the home stadium of Real Madrid CF (Real Madrid Club de Fútbol). Did something happened overseas? Did he go over his expense account? No one is saying.
This reportedly was the memo sent out to the WUSA9 staff:
Here's a post from Hernandez in the NFL Shop in Madrid.
