Former 'The Kane Show' Co-Host Danni Starr Speaks Out on Toxic Workspace at Hot 99-5
The former radio host known as Danni Starr went to IG to tell anyone listening that the sudden departure of Kane and iHeartRadio should not come to a surprise to anyone. The words from her Instagram post are below where she speaks on her time at Hot 99-5.
iHeartMedia and Premiere Networks dropped Kane as host of his "The Kane Show" out of nowhere over the weekend. This was not a budget cut in response to COVID-19. The show was based at Top 40 Hot 99-5 (WIHT) in Washington, D.C. The show was also carried on Z104.3 (WZFT) in Baltimore, 93.3 WFLZ in Tampa and 98.9 Kiss FM (WNRW) in Louisville. Kane was known for the radio bit "War of the Roses," where callers would call-in to catch a cheating spouse or partner by finding out who they would send free roses to, to them or someone else. (This bit has been copied in other markets.) Kane’s remaining morning co-hosts will take over the show as "Your Morning Show."
Premiere which syndicates Kane’s weekly show “Club Kane” on Sunday nights on over 100 stations will end also on the week of May 3. “Hot 99.5” Program Director Rob Kruz will serve as guest host until then. Stay tuned for more details on this seemingly out-of-nowhere firing.
Meanwhile this is what Danni had to say:
"CLEARLY everybody who is shocked about Kane forced themselves not to see the long line of women who disappeared from the air as if they never existed, disregarded the constant gaslighting on the air, and failed to read the essay Never Send a D*ck Pic in my book #empathyandeyebrows.
You still got time lol (link in my bio -shameless plug) Every single word is true and I'm willing to bet stories like this will keep coming out. I was backed into a corner, remember he kept saying I was busy? He was allowed to say anything he wanted on the air and I had to be quiet because, "you're the mother and breadwinner of your family if I were you I wouldn't jeopardize that."
His cohosts have had to do therapy because of the abuse we endured. I'm not scared in the least bit anymore. I will speak out for all of us and the women who right now are trying to survive a misogynistic, racist, sexist, abusive co-worker. I promise you I will fight for and with you! With love, Danielle. Seriously go buy that book! You should be ashamed you didn't listen to survivors. 🤷🏽♀️"
After leaving The Kane Show, Danni Starr became one of the three host on "The Fam in the Morning"on 93.9 WKYS with DJ QuickSilva and DJ 5'9. A controversial bit called "The Nanny" ultimately ended up with her quitting radio and causing Quick to resign and 5'9 being let go by management. (Quick resurfaced at 92Q in Baltimore as afternoon host, which turned into a return to 'KYS. He and Dominique the Diva now hold down afternoons in both markets.)
In this YouTube interview she speaks on the fiasco at WKYS and her time at Hot 99-5. This is a podcast with **raw (ex) plicit language.
